University examinations are an important evaluation of student learning. Students are assessed on the knowledge and skills they have acquired, either in their field of specialization or across all areas of study.

Here, are some rules and regulations that apply to students when it comes to examinations.

    General examination regulations

Students will be asked to submit assignments that fall under either of the following three categories:

    1. The period of examination:

    – Completed work will be given to the student for processing and copying.

    2. The period of examination:

    – Students will be given a few hours, or all day, depending on the length of the examination, to submit their work to the examiner.

    3. The period of examination:

    – The work submitted to the examiner will be taken and evaluated.

    Examination periods and schedules

When a university will conduct examinations, a common schedule is set, and specific dates are set for each examination period. Each exam period has fixed examination dates and dates are always set as Fridays.

    Examination regulations for graduate students

Graduate students are usually regarded as “full-time” students, and they are supposed to do extra-curricular activities, such as research, under the supervision of a research supervisor, in order to obtain a degree. If they are not taking graduate-level courses, the universities require graduate students to sit the examinations on time, which is usually by the second semester.

If you are a graduate student, you will have to schedule your examinations as early as possible. Just like other students, you must submit your documents as early as possible, but you do not have to study in order to pass. Many graduate students have told the following:

“It’s not even really about the content of the paper.

    Examination regulations for undergraduate students

As part of the admission requirements for university students, students are required to sit for one or more examinations within the first two years of university. These examinations are typically administered during the student’s second semester of study. This is the standard timetable for the university system.

    Sectional examinations:

Sectional examinations are compulsory. The time allotted for the examinations is two (2) hours.

Examinations in psychology, biology, chemistry, maths, physics, history, accounting, law and economics are compulsory. The duration for these examinations is two (2) hours and forty minutes.

Examinations in engineering are optional. The time allotted for these examinations is two (2) hours and thirty minutes.

    Examination regulations for international students

International students who are participating in university examinations should check if the regulations outlined by institutions match with those in their home countries.

Students: Here are some guidelines for international students in their country of study:

    – Foreign students in Switzerland are subject to a separate examination system: for example,

    – If an international student wishes to study at the Faculty of Humanities, then he must participate in the entrance examination for the Faculty of Humanities.

    – If an international student wishes to study at the Faculty of Law, then he or she must participate in the entrance examination for the Faculty of Law.

What are the examination standards for students with disabilities?

In Canada, there is a standardized set of standards for all students in order to ensure that all learners are assessed fairly and on an equal basis. The principles of equality, dignity and inclusion (Article 2:15) are the basic principles for assessing all learners.

This means that all students with disabilities have a right to have their disabilities assessed fairly. The person with the disability may use an examination services provider that is accepted by the university.

Article 2:19 states that the person with the disability “shall be included in the assessment of the subject(s) in question, including evaluation by the marking and registration system.

    Students with mental health issues

According to the Commission on Higher Education, non-academic related disciplinary action will be taken against students who “seriously show or threaten” their mental or emotional stability when they are not allowed to participate in examinations or other educational activities.

Students who face disciplinary action must be referred to appropriate counseling and evaluation centers, then to the individual unit of study where they can use the program “Helping adolescents cope with and overcome stress.”

Students without a birth certificate or passport

Students who don’t have valid birth certificates or passports are unable to take examinations and other educational activities. For those who are in need of immediate attention, counseling and evaluation centers are the first places to go.

Students with physical or sensory disabilities

Students with physical disabilities such as spina bifida, dwarfism, haemophilia, Down syndrome, etc. should speak to their teacher or to a school-appointed representative before the examination.

Students who require corrective lenses should ask their teacher or the school-appointed representative in advance for a full range of lenses to suit their needs. Their lenses should not be accommodated only by the equipment in the examination hall.

Students who may have specific medical requirements should write to their teacher or to a representative in advance to explain these requirements and to explain whether they would require special assistance.

    Exam paper

Exam papers are similar to school examinations but include topics with more difficulty.

Examination guidelines for students with disabilities

Students with disabilities such as disabilities due to mental or physical health conditions are entitled to further assessment and evaluation, and may, therefore, be required to retake an exam or course in order to provide evidence of their competence.

Students should notify their faculties if they have a disability, as advised by the University. However, once a student is in possession of a medical diagnosis, they are not permitted to notify the university of any additional disability unless there is an alteration in their condition.

Students who are ill, suffer from a mental or physical disability, or have an impairment in their emotional and social life will require specific consideration when participating in examinations.

    How to prepare for examinations

In general, students need to spend a minimum of two months reading or studying for exams. The topics and units that students should read and study for their courses vary from subject to subject, so it is not always appropriate to follow a set preparation plan.

Some colleges allow students to study for examinations within a prescribed timeframe. This gives the student sufficient time to complete the required reading or study for examinations.

Consult the university’s management if there is no prescribed timeframe, or if there is a specific test to be taken, such as the PSLE, and ask for a timetable for the exam.

    Conclusion

Putting rules in place for the most important time of the year for all students should always be a priority. In their presence, students are held accountable and they can be encouraged to do their very best. It is this motivation that can guide them in their preparation for the examinations and help them to realize their full potential as students and as individuals.
